I think it simply means that there is no limit to how many times we should forgive someone. I think this is hard because I always heard things like, “forgive but don’t forget” or ” fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me” and I think I need to abandon those mindsets and focus on forgiving others no matter what.
What does everyone think about the “forgive but don’t forget” saying? Does that go against the forgiving mindset we are called to have? I think what I struggle with is how do we go about forgiving everyone and everything without letting people take advantage of or walk all over us?
This verse calls us to forgive our friends, neighbors, and enemies over and over again. No matter the sin or shame, we are called to forgive and let Jesus take hold of the situation. We are in a way handing their actions or words over to God instead of formulating hate and anger in return.
